Dear Charming Mari :

It was so nice to see you for the first time at the church today, and it was also so exciting to have a chat with you in English.
I am very happy now to be able to write to you in English, simply because I do really hate to use the troublesome 漢字変換.

By the way..................this is an E-mail to check whether the E-mail address you gave me this afternoon would be usable or not.

Hoping this mail will reach you definitely and also hoping I can see you again in the near future,

Best regards.............and with love !

Seikoh Yatake

P.S.
When you have time, would you please visit my Home Page and have a look ?

Thank you for your e-mail.
Surely, I've received it.

I was really glad to meet you at the church yesterday.
You've been spending very exciting, unique, and interesting life, haven't you ? And I am also impressed by your ability to use several foreign languages.

By the way, after returning home yesterday, I quarreled with my boy friend over the phone.
(I always wish I could be patient and gentle at least on Sunday, after attending the Sunday Service.)
The cause of the quarrel is, as you know, trifles. We will be reconciled sooner or later, but as for now I am miserable.

Well, anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting you again, and talking with you. I 'll check your homepage.

with love,

Mari

● Don't think that it is because of my ability !
Probably it's because I like people..................!
I'd love to have as many friends as possible, which I think led me to have a tool to communicate with people. That's all.

●Mari !
Don't forget that everything is passing and is changing its form every moment in your life !

O.K.

It's true that you are miserable today.
But don't forget you will be differently miserable tomorrow and more differently miserable the day after tomorrow.
If you take everything in this manner, don't you think that even your misery of today can add color or shade to your life and make your life more wonderful ?

.............If you agree with me,....................

Please enjoy your misery of today and make your life wonderful !

Thank you so much for sending a reply-e-mail immediately & encouraging me.
Well, I think you are right. Sometimes even broken heart can't be so bad.
Whenever I want to smile, I do smile, and of course whenever I want to cry,I do cry.
I visited your home-page yesterday.
Bumping into the word "gnome", I consulted with my dictionary at hand( kenkyu-sha's Lighthouse, as you mentioned at your home page).
Surely there was an illustration! The gnome you've met was the same as the illustration?
I would be very grateful if you could tell me more about them.
Concerning "Tvarjanka", I thought of a word which might be a help to explain the meaning in English. That is "wedentity".
This is of course 造語. It comes from "identity", and it implicates the power(?) to get along with every creature on the earth.

Oh time is up! I've got to attend a lecture.

See you!

with love

Hello, Mari :

●So nice to have heard from you again !
To be frank with you, I haven't expected to have a return mail from you today.
Accordingly I wonder if I have been having an ever-lasting dream since yesterday.
.............. I really haven't thought of the possibility until now, that such a fine lady with sincere and innocent heart as you have been living in this world ! !

The reason why I think so is as follows.
...................As soon as I began to read the incomming e-mail of this time, I was quite surprised to find the phrase.................

Mari wrote:

●..............because the above is exactly what I wanted to tell you in my previous mail to you ! What a fine sensitivity you've got ! !
I am really very happy and also very proud to be a friend with you ! !

●These days I have been being asked rather by many people how I have met gnomes (" Ptylitzas") , which have made me think that I have to create a page in my Homepage explaining of the situation of my having met with them.
..................Would you please give me some time to prepare for it ?
Of course, I will let you know of it before other people, when the page is prepared ! !

●..................Thank you, Mari !
Until today I haven't expected any other person than myself to consider of the translation of "Tvarjanka" into English.
When you have time, would you please advise me if this 造語 has been created by yourself and
also advise me of the meaning of its prefix "we-".

●Even now I am still wondering whether my meeing with you is real fact which has actually happened to myself ! !
I am so happy !

Hoping this mail will find you fine,

Dear Mari :

I am sorry to have made a grammatical mistake in my last e-mail to you.
I would like to correct the mistake as follows.

(Wrong)

Hi, Mari !

As soon as I woke up in my bed this morning, I shouted out.......
" I see. That's probably what Mari meant by the coinage (=造語)."

   (singular) i + dentity

     ↓

    (plural) we + dentity

Is this what you meant by the coinage ?

For further discussion, I would like to communicate by e-mail.

Sorry,............ I have to go back to Heutte (ヒュッテ)by the early afternoon Shinkansen of today.

I will be in Heutte by night.

Hoping I will hear from you soon,

YES!!
This is exactly what I wanted to say!!
Sorry I didn't have enough time to explain how the word "wedentity" is created and left the word as a kind of riddle. But I hope you've enjoyed solving the riddle.

Actually, the person who created the word is not me.
I've heard it from a woman who is studying feminism theology(女性神学).
Perhaps she created the word.
I think the word "wedentity" stands for an attitude or consciousness to love & give thanks to other "identity"(including animals, plants, fishes, birds...that is every creature!) Therefore I think it is similar to gnome's "Tvar".

The word "Tvarjanka" seems to have much significant meanings, but I hope "wedentity" will be a help to explain the significance of "Tvarjanka".

It is my pleasure to see your e-mail. I hope to hear from you, from your loving country, Heutte.

with love

Mari

P.S. I might have made gramatical mistakes or spelling mistakes( which always degrates my paper's score at school ), but please be kind to them.

Dear Mari :

I hope you will not be angry with my e-mail of last night.......!

*********************

By the way.................
Tonight we are having the first snow fall of this winter !

It is very.........very............very.............quiet..........outside, and the night is very beautiful !

*********************

VERY IMPORTANT REQUEST TO MARI :

Please do not try to write much to me always, even if I send you a long e-mail !
' Cause....... writing is just one of my hobies ................ !

Accordingly please do not write to me when you don't want to, and ............ please write to me, only when you want to.

Hoping I have not been disturbing your study .......................!

With love................

P.S.
As for the coinage you advised me of, I have been thinking how I can use it upon real translation.......................
The reason why I have been thinking is that we are not sure to which extent we should need the additional explanationi for the comprehension of the coinage to native speakers.

.................I would like to know the reaction from them.
.................My present opinion is that I would like to use the coinage as much as possible.

Because the idea is very interesting and attractive ...............!

Thank you, Mari !

P.P.S.
You asked me to be generous with grammatical and spelling mistakes of your e-mail.
..........That's exactly what I would like you to be with mine, too.

Good news.
I reconciled myself with my boyfried yesterday. I am going to meet him from now.
Thank you for your advice while I was depressed.
I cannot say how much your mail relieved my pain. Thank you.

Sorry, as I had no time to check e-mail yesterday, I couldn't respond to you.
I am not angry at all.
On the contrary, I've got to apologize to you for not being able to pray for you when you need my prayer.

I don't necessarily use a computer every day.
So please be generous if I can not respond to your mail immediately.
Your mail is NOT a bother to my study AT ALL!
Your mail is always welcome, and I am keen to hear from you.

with love,

May God be with you always,

Mari

P.S. Sorry, I can't see your mail even if you send it until Monday because I don't go to college on Saturdays and Sundays.

Good evening, Mari :
I do hope you had a nice date with your boy friend the other day !

....If you don't mind, just tell me how you enjoyed your date with him.
Did you go somewhere ? Or did you have dinner with him ?

.....I am always very pleased to hear young people talk about their date, because their stories always make me happy and young !
.....Is he also a student ?

By the way, last Sunday.....exactly on the same morning I met you at the church, my Home Page was introduced on the local newspaper 信濃毎日新聞.

After this introduction, many people in the town said to me :
" Good morning, Yatake-san ! I saw you on the newspaper !"
" Good morning ! You looked very young on the newspater !"
" Good evening ! You introduced our town to many people outside of the town, which is very good "......and so forth.....

Mari !......If you don't mind again, would you please give me your address ?
Because I would like to send a copy of the article to you, and I would also like you to see the articli of the newspater !

Oh ! ......It's just before the midnight !
I think I have to take a bath and go to bed !
.........Mari, what are you doing now ?

Hoping this e-mail will find you fine,

Bye-bye.................and with love 1

How are you doing?
Thank you for your e-mail ! I would really like to see the article on which you are.
I would be pleased if you would send it to the following address:

165-002・
東京都中野区・・・・・・

The other day, I had dineer with him. We usually have meal together when we meet. Sometimes we go to the movies, go to the mountains, to a beach (for my hometown is in Kamakura)...or just wandering around without destination is fun!

We seldom go shopping(I mean shopping to buy clothes or something like that) because I am not good at it, or more correctly speaking, I am not used to it.
I would like to meet you with him someday.
He must be a little bit shy, but he is kind-hearted interesting person. He is also a student & we are of the same age. I've talked about you to him, and if you don't mind, I would like to show the article to him.

Well, well ! I've got to go now. I have a part-time job this evening.
I teach English to a junior highschool student. Three times a week I teach English.

Take care ! Hope to hear from you again!

with love,

Mari

Dear Mari :

I am so happy to know that you had a nice date with him, and I thank you very much for sending me your home address.
I will be sending the newspaper copy tomorrow, IF I DO NOT FORGET.

Mari, I am also very pleased to learn that your boy friend is warm heareted.
From the very beginning after you let me know that you have a boy friend, I thought that he must be a very kind sort of man, simply because you are very sincere and warm-hearted.

Don't you think we altogether can be good friends ?
I am very sure we can, because I can't see why not ! !

By any chance, please do visit our Huette with him sometime in the future except during winter. ( Winter here is awful because of very low teprerature ! )

Both of you are very welcome here.

O.K.

I'll be stopping my writing here because I woulk like to add a very good and happy news to my home page, of which I will let you know probably in the next mail to you.

In haste

  With love

      A. Yatake

P.S.
Please let me know his name, would you ?

Nice to hear from you!
I'll be waiting for the article!

Thank you for inviting us to your Huette.
Of course, I would really like to go! It is certain that you & my boy friend (his name is Haruaki) will be good friends. I will show you his picture next time we meet.

I've got a surprising e-mail from a friend of mine (she is also a friend of Haru's, because we all belonged to a swimming club when we were high school students).
She said that she was going to get married! Oh what a wonderful news!
She is the first person who is going to get married among my close friends.
Oh, how can I express my feeling??
It's wonderful!

What is "a very good and happy news"?
I am also waiting for it.

with love,

Mari

Maybe I will be able to advise you of the datails of the news soon which has made me really happy these days..... Sorry, I need a little more time !

Finally..................
Thank you for introducing your boy friend's name "Haruki" to me !
I do hope that Haruki and I will be good friends !

Hi!
Although I don't know the contents, I am very glad to hear that the news which you are implying makes you happy!
Only the thought of you being happy somehow makes me smile.

One thing to correct. My boyfriend's name is Haruaki, not Haruki, although he doesn't mind how to be called.

By the way, are you going to spend Christmas service at Momozono church?
I am going to go back to my church in Kamakura on Christmas. I am a sort(?) of teacher at Sunday School, so I am going to attend the annual caroling with them.
We are going to sing chirstmas carols in front of Kamakura station.
I like this event very much! Christmas doesn't come until I sing chirstmas carols !

I am looking for your e-mail & the article.

Although the matter has pleased me very much, it may be a triffle to people other than myself.

●Oh ! I am ........so.............sorry !

One of my bad habit is to read things too quickly and accordingly I am very apt to make such mistakes as of this time.

●Yes, I am intending to spend Christmas Eve at Momozono church, though I have to visit my mother at 特別老人ホーム in Kawagoe city.

The reason why I have to visit the home has been explained in the letter I posted yesterday.

●I used to be a Sunday school teacher of Momozono church for nearly ten years.
And on the Eve, we went around 2 to 3 houses of very old church members who were staying in bed with illness.

I've received the article & a letter yesterday (postal service is very quick!).
Thank you so much.

Indeed, the picture was good, and you looked really nice!
And it was nice to hear about your life in Matsubarako by the letter.
If you don't mind, please let me listen to the song which you and a professor are composing some day.

Do you play any musical instrument? I play the piano.
Sorry, I have to stop this letter now. A friend is waiting for me.

Thousand thanks to the letter & article!

Thank you! I think I am good at cooking for my age.
Yummy meal, coming up!

Concerning the song you are composing, you wrote:

> In that occasion wouldn't you accompany my singing with your piano ?

I'd be happy to! Unless the score is difficult, though....

> I play fiddle (violin)..............not very well, though !

I have been fascinated by the tone of violin.
I don't mind whether you play it well or not, please let me listen if I have a chance.

I am going to Kamakura this week-end.
Brother(who are working in Sendai) is coming back there from Saturday to Sunday. 久しぶりに,all of my family members are gathering together.

I talked about you to my sister and she said she wanted to meet you.
She is going to work at Toranomon-hospital as a nurse next year. She is studying nursing at the moment in a college.

Have a nice week-end!

Dear Mari :
Did you have a nice week end ?
I hope you did.

As for myself, I was having a nice week end unil the supper of this evening. However, after the supper I happened to find that I have to submit an article to the office of public information service of the town by tomorrow.

I have been studying the ecology of the butterflies living in Koumi town. And I have been requested to write something about those lovely insects in every issue of the public infromation of the town.
Accordingly I have to finish this article before I go to bed tonight.

Mari !
By the way, in the 3 rd latest e-mail from you, I remember that you wrote something about your sister.
Would you please advise me of something about her, when you have time ?

●What do you call her ?
●Do you live with your sister ?
●Her hobby.
●Does she like English as you do ?
●Do you think I can communicate with your sister as I have been doing with you ?

Hoping I will hear from you when you have time !

DEAR YATAKE-SAN !

> Did you have a nice week end ?
> I hope you did.

Yes, I did.
Although the time I spent with my family was short(I went to a theatre with Haru on Saturday evening, and I arrived at home late at night, so as my sister & brother.

On Sunday, there was a meeting of Sunday School's teachers after the service (to which my sister and brother also attended), and I came back home just before dinner), I had a nice week end.

Oh you are doing a lot of things! Are there any butterflies peculiar in Koumi ?
I hope they live happily surrounded by rich environment.
I think butterflies in Koumi do!

> Mari !

I am going to write about my sister.

> ●What do you call her ?

Her name is Sanae, and we call her Saa-chan

> ●Do you live with your sister ?

No, she lives in Kamakura with parents now.
But she is going to live apart from them when she starts her job next year.

> ●Her hobby.

Well, I'm not quite sure. Maybe playing the piano? You ought to ask her directly.

> ●Does she like English as you do ?

Yes. But I don't know whether she wants to communicate with you in English or not. But she does not feel strang if you approach her in English, because I said that we were communicating with each other in English.

> ●Do you think I can communicate with your sister as I have been doing with you ?

Of course, you can.
She would be happy to! If you send an e-mail to the following address, she will read it.

It's getting cold even in Tokyo. Take care of yourself. I hope to hear from you!

Dear Mari :
By the way, would you please reach my Home page diary of 28 nov. of this year when I met you at the church ?

And please check the content of the diary of that day.
I do hope the day's diary will not give you any trouble.
However, if you don't like the diary of the day or if you think that the diary will give you any trouble, please tell me so.
I will draw it back right away !

In haste

Sorry, I didn't go to college yesterday, so I didn't read your mail.
Your homepage is opened by the side of this window, and I read the diary with a smile.
Thank you !
It doesn't give any trouble at all. On the contrary, I really like it.
I am afraid that you mistook my feeling and thought that I dislike the diary, because I didn't write to you yesterday.
I'll say it again, I like it !

The classes will be over within a week. And Christmas & New year's holiday is just around the corner although I have several papers I have to do during the holiday.

In great haste,

with love,

Mari

Dear Mari :

●Thank you for your mail, and I am very happy you liked it !
However.....as I read your mail of this time, I said to myself
" What ???? What is Mari thinking ? "
" I didn't mistake her feeling. It is she that mistook my situation ! "

Then I began to laugh, " Oh, dear ! Ha, ha, ha, ha....."

●Oooooooh ! Noooooooo ! Maaaaaaaari !
I didn't mistake your feeking at all ! !
Yes, I know I didn't receive your mail yesterday, but I thoght it's probably because you didn't go to college or at least because you had been very busy.

●O.K.
Mari...................here, I would like to inform you of one thing.
Whenever I write something about some body on my Home page, usually I make it a rule to ask him or her if my writing would give any trouble to that person.
This is simply because I do really hate to make other people unhappy, being caused by my writing !

●On the top of that, in your previous letter you wrote as...............

**********************

Sorry, as I had no time to check e-mail yesterday, I couldn't respond to you.
I don't necessarily use a computer every day.
So please be generous if I can not respond to your mail immediately.

**********************

So I thought you didn't write to me, because you were busy or you played truant from college. (= 学校をサボった!)
O.K....... Now you understand well that I did not send the latest mail simply because you had not witten to me !

Thank you for your mail.
I'll use this PC until next Wednesday,(on next Thursday, I have a christmas party of Sunday school, and next Friday is, as you know, Christmas eve! I am going back home on that days) so please send mails to Kamakura after Wednesday.

I have two presentations at classes, in other words, I have to conduct the classes tomorrow. I'm going to prepare for them from now.
Haru is busy himself with his final thesis( he is senior now), but I am going to church with him on christmas eve.
Going to church on christmas eve has been an annual event since we went steady.(He was with me when I was baptized three years ago.)

Well, well! I hope the song you are going to sing before your mother & her friends on christmas eve will be ready.

Sorry I've got to go now. byebye!

Mari

Dear Mari :

I received a Mini-disk on which two female students of Prof. Hanamura played piano for recording the accompaniment of my song composed by the Professor.

Now I am very happy to be able to bring the recorded accompaniment of my song to my mother's home and sing my song with it.

By the way, probably you do not understand well the total flow of my "song composition" story.
To make the long story short, may I suggest you to read the diary of the following dates ?

11 Nov. 1998
31 Oct. 1999
8 Nov. 1999
16 Dec. 1999

If you read the diary of the dates mentioned above, you will be able to trace ,to some extent though, the flow of the story.
However, if you are busy, please do not hesitate to forget everything.
Because your study is far more important than my hoby ! ! ! !

Hoping this mail will find you fine,

Best regards

Seikoh Yatake

P. S.
When you have time, please advise me of Haruaki's hoby and his major in the college, would you ?

Hi! Another week has started again!
I'm going to tell you what happened on week-ends & Sunday.
On Friday evening, I had dinner with a professor and other students to conclude(!?) this year's classes.
I mean I had a kind of bonenkai.
I had classes from morning to early evening on that day, so that I couldn't check e-mails, sorry.

On Saturday, I went to Tokyo Museum to see the exibition concerning the Silk Road with my friend, Marimo(unique name, isn't it?)
After having lunch at a Korean food restaurant in Ueno, I bought two pair of gloves for two girls who were going to be baptized on the following day at the church.
I had been asked to buy something for them on behalf of the Youth Group of the church.

Sunday was very busy, but above all, interesting & happy day. I played a lot of roles at the church such as an angel in the mini-theatre, Santa in a song.....I was tired a little, but anyhow, I was really glad to have cerebrated the birth of Christ with a lot of brothers & sisters.

After that, I went to see a person who are kindly going to support me as a candidate of a scholarship of Rotary club. As a matter of fact, I am thinking about going to the UK to study in the near future, and I had been looking for a institute which will provide a scholarship.
I'm not sure whether my challenge will work or not now, but I 'll do my best.

Sorry I have been writing down too long without changing a paragraph.
I did a lot of things during these days.

Oh, about Haru's hobby. He likes sports in general, and also likes music.
He seems to have listened to the songs of Beetles a lot, and really knows them well. In addition he said that he had been influenced a lot by the stories of Yatakezawa Kenji which he read when he was a kid.
He is now studying sociology, but he is also interested in education.
The thesis he is writing now is concerned with the two fields.

I hope your song will be a wonderful present for your mother.
I'm sure itwill !
Good luck!

with love,

Mari

I have just finished a part-time job as a supervisor of an exam.
I got up earlier than usual, and therefore, I am sleeeeeepy....
I have the last class of this year from now, so I'll try not to fall into sleep during the lecture.

Mari

Dear charming Mari :
Thank you very much for two of your e-mails, and I am so sorry that I haven't written to you !

In the e-mail of yesterday, you advised me of so many things as the way of your having spent last week end, your having been recomended as a candidate of Rotary club for scholarship, Haruaki's hoby and so forth.

I am really pleased to learn that you have always been having very nice time !
.............Above all, I am happy to know that you may be able to study in UK.

Of course only God knows how it will turn out !
And yet if you can have the chance, please enjoy it !
...........However, Mari, never forget that you should return the result of your study to make other people happy !

On the contrary, if not allowed to study in UK this time, please do keep having a dream of any kind for the future which you can enjoy and you are sure to make other people happy with it !

I like those who really enjoy their life and share the happiness of it with other people.
In other words, I am not so fond of those who are money-minded and care only about themselves.

I am very sure that I like the people who always have a dream and try to share it with other people !

OK. , Mari !
I'll be stopping my writing here, bicause it's already after midnight and it is now tomorrow !

This is the first e-mail sent to your home in Kamakura, isn't it ?

O.K.
Hoping you will remember me to Saa-chan,

With love,

Seikoh Yatake

Never mind please. I had no time to go to college and check e-mails yesterday, so even if you had written to me,I couldn't have read it

The test will be taken place next May. The result will be informed early June.

Indeed, you are right. I am on the way to cultivate my talent to contribute to
other people by using it. Well, the word "contribute" might be too big.

Yeah, I think I will be truly happy if I could make other people happy.

>On the contrary, if not allowed to study in UK this time, please do
>keep having a dream of any kind for the future which you can enjoy

Thank you!
I have been very very very busy these days, but your mail somewhat eases my fatigue.
In other words, your mail refreshes my life.

Lastly, I wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS !! MAY GOD BE WITH YOU!!
I thank God for sending me a new precious friend, Yatake-san.

with love,
   Mari

Thank you for the Christmas greetings!
I spent a very calm and wonderful christmas.

Thirteen years have passed since my grandfather passed away, so today my relatives meet together to remember him.
I got up early in the morning and went to Mishima in Shizuoka where my mother came from and my grandmother lives now.
I've just returned from Mishima with my family by car. We were caught in a traffic jam but I'm fine. I'm taking a rest now.

I'm going back to my flat tomorrow for I have a part-time job as a tutor until 29th of this month. So I can't read&reply to your letter until 30th.

with love,

Mari
